Dragonflies

The Tigertail Dragonfly has the largest wingspan in the region reaching 90mm. It is a fast and powerful flier flying continuously for long periods. We saw this one at Lake Panic in the Kruger National Park.

The Red Veined Dropwing dragonfly is very widespread and found virtually throughout Africa, including some of the driest regions. We saw this one at Intaka Island.

The Wandering Glider Dragonfly is common at all waterways throughout Africa. We saw this one at the Harold Porter Gardens.

The Blue Emperor Dragonfly is a fearsome creature, eating butterflies, insects and even tadpoles. We saw this at Intaka Island.

The Red Arrow Dragonfly is a medium-sized dragonfly with a wingspan about 60-85mm. The adult male is red in colour, and the female is a duller brown or orange. We saw this one in Centennial Park.
