The Painted Lady Butterfly – (Vanessa cardui) (Afrikaans name Sondagsrokkie) is found thoughout Southern Africa particularly in drier areas like the Fynbos/Karoo. Found year round with two peak periods Mar-Jul and Aug-Oct, sometimes swarming in the Fynbos/Karoo in winter.
We have observed them in Kirstenbosch and Rietvlei
