This Giant Puffball grew in our front garden, we couldn’t believe it we thought it was a ball thrown into the garden. The giant puffball, (Calvatia gigantea) is a puffball mushroom commonly found in meadows, fields, and deciduous forests usually in late summer and autumn.
Four days later it had started to decompose. Giant puffballs are saprotrophs, meaning they feed on dead organic matter. They’re more likely found in meadows and grasslands than in the forest. They are always found growing on the ground rather than up in trees and they never grow on wood.
